Incoming goods are moved straight from receiving docks to outgoing shipping docks with little to no storage in between, a process known as cross-docking. This approach speeds up order fulfilment, cuts down on delivery lead times, and lowers the cost of keeping inventory on hand. Cross-docking works especially well in supply chains that move quickly, like retail or e-commerce, where efficiency and speed are crucial. Effective execution, however, necessitates exact coordination and real-time inventory visibility.
