Consignment inventory is stock that is owned by the supplier but stored at the buyer’s location. The buyer only pays for the inventory once it is used or sold. This model reduces the buyer’s inventory carrying costs and risk, while the supplier retains ownership and control until the inventory is consumed. Effective tracking and communication are essential to managing consignment inventory successfully, as it requires tight coordination and trust between trading partners.
