Inventory kept in a job shop, where small-batch or custom products are made in response to specific customer orders, is referred to as job shop inventory. Job shops deal with erratic demand, unique components, and variable routing. Consequently, inventory management emphasizes adaptability, tracking of work-in-progress, and responsiveness to particular job requirements. Job shop inventory, in contrast to mass production systems, needs to be closely linked with material availability and job scheduling.
