Cross-Docking is a logistics practice where incoming goods are directly transferred from inbound transportation to outbound shipments with minimal or no storage time in a warehouse. The term is sometimes abbreviated or misheard as “X-Docking.” This technique reduces inventory holding costs, shortens delivery times, and improves supply chain responsiveness. Effective cross-docking requires precise coordination of inbound and outbound schedules and real-time inventory visibility, enabling products to move swiftly through the supply chain without accumulating in warehouses.
